OPI Participants Going to Peru

Between 8-10 Optimum Performance Institute Participants will be spending two weeks late this summer in the Land of the Incas: Machu Picchu and the Urubanba Valley and the Manu Wildlife Center in the Peruvian Amazon Basin. They will be accompanied by OPI staff.

The customized trip is being organized by Geographic Expeditions, a San Francisco-based adventure travel company voted one of the world’s top ten tour operators by Travel & Leisure magazine and a Top Travel Pro by Conde Nast magazine.

Participants will visit archeological remains and attend a festive market in the ruins of Pisac, high in the Peruvian Sierra. They will participate in Andean-style traditional feasts and hike or take a train to Machu Picchu.

Rising before dawn in Cusco on Day 10 they will take a 25-minute boat trip down the Amazon and from a floating catamaran blind view hundreds of parrots and macaws at a clay lick. That afternoon will be spent on a 111-foot platform watching the day’s last frantic jungle activity from the rainforest canopy.

OPI coordinates trips like this with Geographic Expeditions in order to help participants:
Develop a sensitivity and appreciation for the needs and points of view of others
Learn to appreciate the innate values that makes each of them special
Recognize the importance of qualities such as tolerance and patience—traits that can be gleaned from interacting with others in unique circumstances

OPI is a highly individualized residential/therapeutic and educational program for 17-25-year olds. Participants stay a minimum of 6 months.
