OPI Living Open Mic Night 2013

OPI Living Open Mic Night 2013On Wednesday, December 11th, OPI held its annual Open Mic Night at Guitar Merchant, a local music studio in Canoga Park, CA. Open Mic Night is put on each year by the Extracurricular Activities Department. There were yummy treats and sandwiches galore, and the food was just as abundant as the impressive talent that took the stage that evening. Several participants as well as staff participated in this hilariously entertaining and mesmerizing talent showcase. Some individuals sang, others played the guitar or the drums, and there was even a bit of stand-up comedy.

After the show, staff and participants expressed how appreciative they were of the event and how much fun they had being there. Life Coach Jaime Jackson expressed that it was, “Unbelievable!” Jaime added, “Such great talent! It was incredible to see the participants in a different light, and my favorite moment was at the very end when everyone joined together and sang Closing Time together. It was very special.” Phase II participant, A.M., also shared some wonderful feedback about Open Mic Night: “Getting to sing on stage with my friends was a wonderful experience and I felt so confident afterward. Kelsey and Amanda are da-bomb-diggity!”

Dr. Robert Fischer, OPI’s executive director and co-founder, particularly enjoys this yearly event, as he loves watching the participants express themselves through performing arts. This past Open Mic Night was extremely successful for staff and participants alike.
