Extracurricular Cooking Class Gets a Makeover

OPI Living Extracurricular Cooking Class Gets a MakeoverOPI’s Cooking Class is a requirement set by the Extracurricular Activities department to help participants develop important life skills. Recently, we decided to revamp this program into a 12-week series split into two 6-week sessions: Cooking Class 101 and Cooking Class 102.

The objective of Cooking Class 101 is to provide a structured environment that gives participants a strong foundation so they can utilize their culinary skills more effectively. Each week will focus on a different topic or cooking method. Topics vary from cutting techniques, creating a balanced meal, making savory sauces and marinating and baking fish, just to name a few.

After a participant completes Cooking Class 101, he/she may transition to Cooking Class 102. In this class, participants have the opportunity to take initiative regarding which recipes they would like to learn how to prepare, and are able to apply the skills they acquired during the first six weeks. As participants progress, they will demonstrate the skills they learned as they each lead classes in this more advanced setting.

Bon appetit!
