A Fond Farewell From OPI’s Retiring Financial Director, Walter Tuthill

Walter Tuthill, Optimum Performance InstituteLong-time accountant Walter Tuthill, former financial director of the Optimum Performance Institute and OPI Intensive, was recently feted upon his retirement at an outdoor barbecue in a park across the street from OPI offices. In keeping with the barbecue’s Mexican theme, Walter, great sport that he always is, donned a sombrero and swung (with dubious success) at a piñata while blindfolded.

In a farewell letter that he wrote following the event, Walter introduced a special acronym to describe the OPI team:

I have never had a position with a company with such a terrific team of professionals who work in such a harmonious way to achieve uniquely powerful successful outcomes for their clients. It is a real pleasure to count each and every one of you as a dear friend.

I have a few thoughts about why the team is so effective and why the rate of successful outcomes is so high. I came up with an acronym that is, from my perspective, descriptive (and prescriptive) of OPI’s culture among everyone: drivers, office staff, department heads, the milieu team, therapists and psychiatrists.

The acronym is CARES. It stands for:

Communication: The OPI team uses communication of all kinds among all members very effectively to ensure the most effective methods of working with clients.

Awareness: All members of the OPI team stay totally aware of all aspects of each client’s treatment plan, diagnosis, day-to-day behaviors and personalities on a 24/7 basis.

Resourceful: Whenever a new or unusual issue arises, every member of the team works together to find and implement an effective means to address the issue.

Empathy: All members of the OPI team treat all clients with total empathy and compassion, reacting effectively and with understanding whenever any issue arises.

Successful Outcomes: The ultimate result of the team’s hard work, skill and professionalism with each and every client.

Through his years of support and his CARES legacy, Walter will always live on at OPI; we wish him the very best in his retirement.
