""Let’s face it: this is the day and age of instant gratification. You want a coffee, order it on your app, and pick it up in 2 minutes. You want a book you heard about, it’ll be at your door in 24-48 hours. No one has to wait for anything anymore. Thus, staying motivated is getting harder and harder as the generations push on. Not everything comes at the snap of your fingers. So, what do you do to keep motivated to achieve your goals? Read on to find out!

  1. Make it fun. Who likes to do things that aren’t fun?? Exercise isn’t fun for many people, but when you mix it up, do it with friends, or find something that is truly challenging and enjoyable, you keep doing it. If you have a goal, and the steps to achieve it have become tedious, boring, or annoying, take a step back. What made you make this goal to begin with? What was it about this goal that was fun to you? Bring the fun back and you’ll keep your motivation.

  2. Turn that frown upside down! Yes, turn those negatives into positives!! So you got told “no.” So what! Try again. So, your experiment didn’t work this time or your hands were sweaty when shaking someone else’s hands or your ran out of funding. SO WHAT! Find the positives in everything that you are doing. Maybe you weren’t supposed to be told yes – maybe that “no” spared you from a horrible road to your goal. Maybe you missed a crucial step in your experiment or the person you were meeting with had sweaty hands, too, and didn’t notice yours. It doesn’t matter what happened that you perceived as negative. Take a moment to mourn the negative and then turn it into a positive. Use that negative as a teaching opportunity to yourself and as the opportunity to try again, only better!

  3. Be grateful. You are in the midst of something awesome! You have set your goal and you have the opportunity to make it happen. Stop complaining about everything that might be going wrong and take a minute to express gratitude. Be grateful that you are in a position where you can make any goal you want and set about achieving that goal in any way you desire.

  4. Stop and recognize how far you’ve come! Where were you when you set this goal? Where are you now? Give yourself a pat on the pack and acknowledge all the hard work and effort you have put into your goal thus far. Be your very own cheerleader and acknowledge that you’ve worked hard.

  5. When push comes to shove, reward yourself. If you’re still finding it hard to maintain your motivation, give yourself a reward. Maybe take a break and come back to your goal later, take a mini vacation (if it’s in your budget!), or give yourself an ice cream cone. You deserve a reward for all the hard work and perseverance you’ve put forth so far.

At the end of the day, this is YOUR goal. You wanted this badly enough to make it your goal, so don’t forget that. And, if it’s not what you thought you wanted, start over! Goals are just that – goals. They aren’t mandatories or forced – they are for you and by you. So, find your motivation. Acknowledge your hard work, reward yourself, be positive, and make it fun. You can do it!
