As Director of Admissions for all OPI Living Programs, I recently decided to start a blog post series to outline some commonly asked questions that we receive from parents and referring therapists. This is the second set of questions in my new series. To read all of the frequently asked questions I’ve discussed, visit our FAQs blog category for a complete listing.

Question: In one sentence, tell me what OPI will do for my young adult.

Answer: We are a highly therapeutic program with nearly a decade of experience helping young men and women begin to set and persevere at personal goals and dreams while gaining an understanding of what held them back in the past and how to deal with it in the real world.

Question: What kinds of issues do young adults have who come to OPI Living Programs?

Answer: Our Participants struggle with issues ranging from Bipolar Disorder, Failure to Launch, Asperger’s Syndrome and duel diagnoses to depression, anxiety and learning disabilities.

OPI’s OPI Intensive is specifically for young men and women with Borderline Traits, Borderline Personality Disorder and co-occurring conditions.

Question: What is the average length of stay?

Answer: Our programs are highly individualized but, as a rule, OPI’s supervised Phase I and less supervised Phase II segments last about 3 months, each. Participants can remain in Phase II for as long as everyone agrees it is appropriate and then move on to our AfterCare or Outpatient program. We recommend Participants stay a minimum of 6 months in order to fully benefit from everything we have to offer and gain the tools they need to succeed in the real world. The average length of stay is 9-10 months.

OPI Intensive begins with an intensive 30-day Immersion Phase in Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) and Mindful Awareness techniques followed by 30-day mobilization phases.
