Community service is the cat’s meow

Summer is here at the Optimum Performance Institute and The Department of Volunteer and Career decided to take advantage of the amazing weather to plan another staff/participant community service event.

The event took place during the regularly scheduled career workshop and was a great break from the typical work week. We volunteered with NKLA [No-Kill Los Angeles] at their gorgeous animal facility in Los Angeles. NKLA [No-Kill Los Angeles] is an initiative led by Best Friends Animal Society and is a collaboration of animal welfare organizations, some of which our participants regularly volunteer with.

We had the opportunity to socialize with cats, walk dogs and take dogs into play rooms which was rewarding since many of the participants miss their pets. Participants and staff were able to bond through these experiences and see each other in a different light. We received so much positive feedback that we plan to visit again soon.
