“SMART” Secrets from a Life Coach: How to Make Your New Year’s Goals Work!

SMART Goal Setting Life Coaching OPI LivingIt’s that time of year again for most people–a time when we’ve been reflecting back on our accomplishments as well as the roadblocks encountered from the previous year and our vows that 2013 will be different. But will it?

At the Optimum Performance Institute, as with all of our OPI Living Programs, we can help you plan your goals differently this year. Set yourself up for yearlong success instead of feelings of self-defeat and shame come mid-March.

Follow these simple instructions from our Department of Life Coaching Services and learn how to set “SMART” goals. Give yourself the support you need to achieve the results you want in 2013 and beyond!

Start Off SMART:

“S” stands for Specific: Envision your goal. Describe what your goal looks like to you and who or what is involved. Be as detailed as possible.

“M” stands for Measurable: Determine a way to objectively judge how you will know when you have accomplished your goal. Use numbers as much as possible.

“A” stands for Achievable: Ask yourself, is this reasonable or realistic? What type of support do I need to achieve this goal? Certain things, such as becoming a mermaid, just may not be possible.

“R” is for Result:  What is your expected result? What do you imagine your life will be like when this goal is reached? Are you open to alternative results?

“T” is for Time Oriented: What timeline is realistic to achieve your goal? What action steps along the way will serve as indicators of your progress?

Remember: Don’t Wish for it, Work for it!
