OPI Responds to Parent and Participant Requests: Changes are Made

JCAHO-accredited Optimum Performance Institute continues its dynamic tradition of rapidly responding to the individualized needs of Young Adults by making significant programming changes to its OPI Intensive for Young Adults with Borderline Traits, Borderline Personality Disorder and Co-Occurring Conditions (eating disorders, substance abuse, PTSD, mood disorders, etc.).

OPI opened the specialized OPI Intensive about a year ago.

OPI Intensive now serves young men and young women.

OPI Intensive for Young Adults with disorders of emotion regulation now serves men as well as women and 17-year-old young adults.

OPI Intensive also responded positively to requests from parents and participants that services be provided more rapidly and efficiently. They asked that all Participants live in apartments in Woodland Hills, CA, close to OPI Staff and other Participants, rather than at the previous OPI Intensive location in Malibu, CA.

Now, OPI Intensive is seamlessly integrated into the OPI “village” and its highly experienced clinical staff who work in well-staffed, secure environments, drawing upon the plethora of opportunities OPI has cultivated over the years in the Los Angeles area to stimulate growth and development for Participants.

OPI Intensive phases are shorter and cost less.

OPI Intensive is divided into two phases: an intensive, highly-staffed Immersion Phase where Participants learn Dialectical Behavior Therapy and Mindfulness techniques while engaging in numerous other activities. This is followed by Mobilization and Integration Phases. Here, Participants begin to discover their own passions and interests, continue internalizing DBT and Mindfulness techniques while utilizing customized services, resources and staff OPI has developed over the past decade.

The intensive, 30-Day Immersion Phase and each 30-Day Mobilization and Integration Phase are now $24,900. Participants live in apartments near OPI.

All OPI Intensiveming remains the same.

In the Immersion Phase, Participants:

  • Undergo intensive training in Dialectical Behavior Therapy– an evidence-based therapy developed specifically for disorders of emotional regulation.
  • Focus on development of Distress Tolerance, Interpersonal Effectiveness and Emotion Regulation.
  • Focus on their co-occurring conditions such as eating disorders, substance abuse, PTSD, etc.
  • Engage in specialized Mindfulness Techniques such as yoga and equine therapy.
  • Begin a relationship with a therapist/case manager who remains with them throughout their stay at OPI Intensive and is the point person for the family.
  • Engage in psychiatric evaluation, medication management, individual skills coaching, expressive art therapy plus “improv,” writing and goal workshops and more.

The curriculum continues in each Mobilization Phases where Participants begin to discover a personal life that’s worth living. Working with OPI’s seasoned Departments of Education, Career Development, Volunteer Services and Extra Curricular Activities, Participants begin their own path to transformation and independence.
