"WE ARE RESOLVED TO PROVIDING THE HIGHEST POSSIBLE
QUALITY OF CARE FOR YOUNG ADULTS"
- Dr. Robert Fischer M.D.

What is the Optimum Performance Institute?

OPI a small, highly individualized, co-ed transitional young adult program in Southern California. Our Participants ages 17-28 years old come to us from throughout the world to progress through our highly therapeutic, educational, vocational, recreational and recovery program, find balance in their lives and their place as responsible members of society.

As Participants enroll in a nearby junior college or university—or complete high school, get their GED or enter the work force---they receive services ranging from individualized and group therapy, substance abuse counseling when indicated, career counseling, educational tutoring, organizational and Life Skills Training and support to help them set goals and decide what they want to do with their lives.

  • In 2010 OPI was accredited by the National Joint Commission on Accreditation of Health Care Organizations (JCAHO) because of the quality of its care and programs. We are one of the first programs in the United States focusing on Young Adult Transition to receive this prestigious honor.

  • OPI offers a multi-phase model based on developmental milestones. As Participants reach different milestones they move through our phases to achieve higher levels of independence and privileges.
Structure decreases as they gain the ability to make wise decisions, develop self reliance, achieve life skills and learn the value of compassion, tolerance and perseverance while reaching their goals.

  • Our Goal is to help Young Adults realize their full potential. We do this by helping them understand and cope with issues that may have been holding them back in the past, while they simultaneously begin moving forward toward goals they, themselves, set while they are here.

  • OPI helps Young Adults gain the awareness and skills needed to be able to choose peers who are supportive of their goals and who can share extracurricular activities in a healthy way that helps everyone achieve a successful balance in their lives.

  • Some of our Participants are struggling with issues related to leaving home and adjusting to college and/or work environments. They may be unsuccessful in persevering in the Academic and/or Work Worlds.

  • Some of our Participants may have one or more unique challenges. They may be unsuccessful in persevering in the academic or work worlds. They may be unable to individuate or leave home. They may be struggling with anxiety, depression, learning disabilities, ADHD, bipolar disorder, OCD, Asperger’s Syndrome, Drug/alcohol or other addiction issues.

  • Irrespective of diagnostic categories, we are an environment where people can begin to understand their own gifts as well as the gifts others have. They begin to understand the personal reward and value that comes from helping others grow.

  • OPI mirrors the best qualities of this new world where people from diverse backgrounds with diverse issues, problems and points of view come together in order to grow separately as well as a community.

  • OPI’s fee structure is based on a quarterly billing system. Participants sign up for three months, then continue their stay for additional three-month periods with mutual consent from Parents/sponsors and OPI. Or, they may move to Aftercare (billed in 2-month segments) or to our Outpatient Services Program. (The Outpatient Program provides a menu of services with different payment options). They also may move on to complete goals set at OPI.

  • Participants may continue at OPI for as long as everyone (Participant, Parent/sponsors, OPI Treatment Team) agrees is needed.

  • OPI does not accept insurance. However, OPI has JCAHO accreditation which might assist parents in obtaining some reimbursement from their insurance carriers.

  • Our Participants may have one or more unique challenges. They may be unsuccessful in persevering in the academic and/or work worlds. They might be unable to individuate or leave home. They may struggle with anxiety, depression, learning disabilities, ADHD, bipolar disorder, OCD, Asperger Syndrome, drug/alcohol or other issues: We do not accept Young Adults who used intravenous opiates.

Why Southern California?

We know that success is a word that only can be defined by each Participant and family, but our objective is to provide a place for Young Adults to become aware that there are more opportunities and possibilities available to them than they may realize.

We are 45 minutes Northwest of Los Angeles in Woodland Hills, CA, where we can take advantage of the rich resources available in the area such as career, educational, recreational opportunities as well as opportunities in the arts and finance, business and entertainment communities. That is one reason why OPI is particularly suited for those interested in living in a Metropolitan area.

In Southern California there is:

  • A vast array of experiential opportunities for Participants to explore including a plethora of individual programs, music schools, fashion schools and culinary institutes, colleges and universities, jobs, recreational and vocational opportunities. We support our Participants while they learn to engage in these opportunities and increase their self esteem.

  • MENTORS: The Los Angeles area is replete with accomplished people in numerous fields who agree to serve as mentors to OPI Participants, sharing their interesting careers and interests.

    • This is one of many ways we work to further the focus for their passions and interests, develop possible career choices and help them find inspiration and meaning in their lives and their place in the world.

We help our Young Adults establish the platform they need to cultivate OPI’s 3 touchstone principals: Perseverance, Patience (toward one’s self and others) and an appreciation for having Compassion toward one’s self, peers and the world in which we live.

  • Don’t worry about our Freeways: We drive our Participants everywhere they need to go.
